The Write Stuff (5th-8th grades)

A fun and painless way to help middle school students meet writing standards!

Utilizing the adolescent child’s interest in socialization, competition, and performing, this “game show” format is the perfect thing to hold your middle schoolers’ attention.  Our StageWorks actors/hosts will interact with them and lead in games with real prizes! What a painless and fun way to teach them the fundamentals of the five-paragraph essay!  Available in two versions (depending on your curriculum interest) The Write Stuff can teach the basics of the problem/solution essay or writing for clarification/ description. With fabulous flair, fifteen to twenty students answer questions and perform stunts as “topics”, “sentences”, “examples”, and “elaborations” with our professional actors.  We introduce the prompt and they help brainstorm, outline, organize, and write a 5-paragraph paper right before the eyes of the student audience! The show is filled with excitement, hilarious improvisation and audience participation.  Students from grades 5 through 8 will definitely remember what it takes to write a 5-paragraph paper!

I Can Read!!

Utilizes the characteristics common to successful reading intervention programs

This charming, innovative presentation draws upon concepts shared with effective early reading programs: Success For All, The Winston-Salem Project, The Boulder Program, Reading Recovery, and EIR. This warm and captivating presentation draws your early elementary students into a welcoming experience where they “mentor” one of our expert StageWorks actor/educators playing the role of a young child just learning to read. Through this adroit method of performing/teaching, kindergarten through second grade students learn how to approach written material. The fundamental reading concepts of picture walking, modeled reading, recurring language patterns, picture to text matching, word and phrase repetition, phonemic awareness, and using writing to extend identification skills are inherent in this groundbreaking presentation. Your young readers will never experience a more charismatic nor engaging introduction to literacy.
