Imaginative and Personal Narrative & Creative Writing

This residency is designed to follow the performance of imagination express!

Available in a 5-day format for grade levels or a flexible format for intervention/remedial student groups, our StageWorks instructors partner with classroom teachers and students to teach a formula for creative writing that they can remember each time they begin to write. The four concepts of character, location, action and plot (CLAP) are presented in a creative drama lesson. Children play as they learn, making the experience fun and something they look forward to doing. Children write everyday so issues of grammar and mechanics are caught and corrected at the moment. The end result is that every student becomes a writer/storyteller.

Write Stuff

The companion-teaching residency with the production of the Write Stuff

This 5-day residency brings our actor/educator into the classroom. Sequential elements of clarification/descriptive OR problem/solution writing are taught daily through a creative drama activity. At the end of each period, the students write that part of their paper. Depending on the curriculum focus, daily exercises may include, responding to the prompt, brainstorming, organization styles, examples and elaboration, or summary and conclusions. When the week concludes, teachers will see their students’ expanded creativity, acting talents, and an initial draft of a 5-paragraph paper!

This residency will get your student body writing and creating! With guidance from a StageWorks facilitator, your young authors and artists go to work creating content for your school's upcoming big production. All of that original material is collected and scripted into a theatrical presentation and brought back to your site by our StageWorks director who directs your students to perform their own creation.
